Dawn is the first-born sister of the group; but thanks
to the miracle of coloring one's hair, who can tell? She's grateful to
be a part of the Schimpp family which has sung together for years. She's
grateful to be part of the family at all, actually. Her mother, Carmen,
being the polite Swedish woman that she is, almost took the wrong baby
home from the hospital
she didnt want to be a bother when she
knew the nurse handed her a different baby girl at feeding time. I mean,
those nurses have enough things on their mind without some hysterical
new mom worried about getting the wrong child! But after a couple of hours,
Carmen did muster the courage to ask "if it's not too much trouble,
I think I may have the wrong baby here. But take your time, finish what
you need to. I'm in no hurry
sorry for the inconvenience!" So,
having made it to the right family after all, Dawn soon picked up the
love for music from both of her parents and has spent many years singing
everything from gospel to country to folk to show-tunes. When she's not
singing, Dawn likes to read and write, go for long walks around the Lakes
of Minneapolis, drink hot-chocolate and reminisce about the lives of her
sea-monkeys.
Andrea's the middle child born to Gary and Carmen Schimpp.
Need we say more? She's slowly getting over the "syndrome" that
fell prey to her just because she was born when she was. Andrea's a fun-loving
gal that keeps everyone on their toes and makes the best 3-bean casserole
this side of the Mississippi. This middle Ruby Boot always knew she wanted
to sing. Growing up in the country without a lot of friends nearby, she'd
spend hours with a curling-iron as a microphone singing to an audience
which consisted of the family dog, Willie, and a few dolls lined up on
the couch. The sound probably wasn't the best back then, but her hair
sure looked good. Over the years Andrea's enjoyed singing with various
groups, and after living for a few years in Birmingham, AL, she's glad
to be back in the mid-west singing with her family. Andrea's husband,
Scott, is a professor at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. They're renovating
an old Victorian house, and have two beautiful children, Linnea and Hayden
Linnea
even sings with us occasionally
we've given her a real microphone
instead of a curling-iron.
Heather is the baby of the family, and surprised everyone
a few years ago when she learned not only how to talk, but to SING!! She
quickly moved beyond the songs of Barney and became a key member of Ruby
Boots with her strong clear voice. Heather's the comedienne of the family,
and keeps us all entertained on the road with her practical jokes which
we seem to fall for every time (If you happen to catch our act, and Heather
asks you to pull her finger, don't.). In her spare time, this swingin' Schimpp
sister likes to go to concerts, read mystery novels, practice her fiddle
and dreams of one day becoming a Salsa Dancer. (She didn't learn THAT from
her two older sisters). Even though she's the youngest, Heather's probably
the smartest business woman of the group and one needs only peek in her
garage to see she's been successful... Heather's the envy of many when
she drives around town in her '79 mint-green Plymouth Volare. Hey! It runs
great!
